Magician or Necromancer

I'm all new to P99, but I do have some experience from EQ in general (vanilla and up to Ldon, and from 09-today). Anyway, I'm from Norway and because of that I find Europa as a guild interesting
I'm having a hard time deciding what class to play. My first EQ character back in 99 was a Magician, and I'm now considering to go back to this class. I also consider to start a necromancer, mainly beause I have never played this class and find it's concept interesting. I don't care much about soloing, so my questions is this.
1: What is most sought after in groups, magicians or necromancers?
2: And why do you guys set Magicians as High and Necromancers as Medium in desirability.
3: Is there a lack of Magicians and Wizards on this server compared to Necromancers and Enchanters?

1: Both are not very demanded but, as a cleric, I like then both because they have a pet and can regen. With both you can do AE groups too when you hit 55+. I think necro are better soloer, but if you want to live again your past experience, you'd have to do a magician. I think the question you have to ask yourself is : Do I want a new experience or do I want to live again my memories ?

2: Class desirability is set according to our needs. We had enough necromancer, but now we may lack some. We have too few wizards to handle ports/DPS. We have too few magicians to handle CotH/DPS. We have enough chanter to handle mezzes most of the time. But this must be confirmed by officers.

3: There's a lot of necromancers and enchanters on P99 I think. Mages and wizards are rarer.

Personally, I play again a cleric, because I liked this class and I wanted to feel my heart béat again when I heal people, but now I'm free to reroll what I want to play :)

I play a necro, necromancers are very powerful. Mages are generally more wanted in group because they are generally considered to have a very high DPS. There are alot of necros on this server, where mages are generally rare (I believe it is because necro's can farm better than mages and have more utility spells). Other classes to consider if you want to Solo, Be different and Group are:
Bard, can solo quite well and are loved in group, needed by guilds, and generally rarr
Wizard, from what i understand they can solo decently and when they hit 29 or 34 they can AoE kite for Solo EXP, groups also like them for their hihg DPS and they can port.
Druids, Enuogh said, but there are many druids out there
Shaman, great soloers, demi wanted in groups, but are very common on this server
Enchanter, Great at soloing at higher levels, group always need them, if I did it all over again, i would probably make a chanter

But, at the end of the day, play what you think is the most fun!

I may be too categorical but, for me, best groups are formed with cleric, war/pal/sk, shaman, enchanter/bard, monk and rogue. Druid, wizard and necro are, in my humble opinion, made for soloing. I don't talk about magicians ? Because, still in my humble opinion, they are medium at both soloing and grouping. I think people who play magicians must be in love of the class. But I admit they are very useful in raids/groups.

So whatever you choose, do it because you love it and not simply to fill our desirability :)
