Hi guys, new player here

Post by Bedalin »

Hello all

I was playing a lvl 100 warrior 8k AA on Antonius bayle (euro live server) and got bored. I first tried to play on Vox (new live server) but went lvl 53 and lots of AA in less than a week and almost never died, plus it was 90% solo. Conclusion : live servers are empty from 0 to 90 and too easy, no challenge at all (mercs, bazar, defiant gear, POK, plats easy to get ...). That's why I checked the needed europa raiding classes and i created a paladin yesterday on p1999 (i love tanks :p).

I created the exact same character i created in june 2000 when i started everquest (human paladin), it is now level 4 and is leveling very slowly.
But now i hesitate to start over as a warrior, first because the paladin seems lame (warrior has better dps and better tanking abilities even in low levels) and second because the class xp penalty is huge :(

So i ask you guys : why do you need so much paladin for your raids?
And on a global point : will a paladin find groups easier than a warrior?

i hesitate a lot and i have to take decision now because i will have a lot of play time during next week end and i want to take profit on it to get levels fast.

So i ask you guys : why do you need so much paladin for your raids?
The use of a Paladin in a raid is very situational and often warriors can do its job better (Def disc, Better taunt, Caps ..). However we have a shortage of Paladins in Europa (Well, and on the server, Pal is prob the less played class), and I suppose thats why the thread says Very High need =). Nevertheless, a Pal can tank Planes or less encounters just fine. LoH is always nice to have also )
And on a global point : will a paladin find groups easier than a warrior?
No. Most people will take a warrior first, only to not suck the XP penalty of hybrids. Also a warrior can do DPS to some extent and can be played that way, when Paladins are limited to the Tanking part of group.

Almost forgot to say, Pal can solo better than Warriors, so if you planning to play solo sometimes, have that on mind.

But man, tbh, play the class you like the most.

I agree that you should play the class (and race) you like the most, it's the most important thing or you'll burn out quickly.

However, I disagree that you won't find any groups - you will. Paladins make far better group tanks than warriors with snap aggro, CC (root), take less damage against casters with stuns, and so on. They're a solid and underrated class imo, even if they certainly have their flaws, with low dps - something you can seriously deal with by focusing on fighting undead mobs with a ghoulbane. Now, if what gives you the kicks is to be MT1 in raids when facing badass bosses, Warrior is obviously the way to go over Paladin.

We state HIGH for paladin recruitment because we hardly have any, and the one or 2 we have are casual players, whereas we're starting to have a solid warriors team.

It's your call really. The exp penalty is rough indeed, but you can solo when needed as a pally, and they re super cheap to stuff/twink which is an important factor for a first toon on the server, whereas warrior gear costs a lot.

Looking forward to hear more from you Bedalin, and welcome to Europa forums.

He WILL find groups, but he was asking if a Pal > War when people ask :p. Anyway most times, at least on euro time, you will find yourself being the only tank in zone, so you will find groups quicks imo.

Anyway Bedalin, Im glad you sticked with the Paladin, I agree that its a very underrated class and I believe they make great tanks.

/tell Gaviilan anytime if you need some buffies or a port or two ;)

Hey hey Beladin,

Paladin is hard to lvl up. But, yu ll find a grp easly. In XP grp, yu are the master of agro with your spells.

In Raid, yu can be offtank and guard cleric, MT, chanter with yur LOH and heals. Therefore, YU can deal damage versus undeads.

So paladin is a fun class.
-Yu re a solid tank, but not the best.
-Yu can solo versus undeads.
-Yu can heals while downtime and can be a decent healer with Greater heal, superior heal and celestial heal.
-YU re the master of agro  .
-Yu are the best tank look  (not the dwarf)

But:
-Warriors will tank better than yu.
-Yu have the exp penalty.

Enjoy, see yu online.
